(More customer reviews)A local department store had the MiWi on sale, so I decided to buy one for review. The one that I got could be a slightly updated version of the MiWi that's posted here, as the box says "MiWi Xtra", but the contents of the packaging along with the system itself are very similar to what's pictured.
The system comes with two "Geniecon" Wii remote knockoffs, one arcade joypad controller, two PingPong attachments, a golf club attachment, a baseball attachment, a tennis racket attachment, a "Soccer Transmitter", two cartridges with the games, and the console itself.
First of all, I do have to agree that the control is nothing like an actual Wii. While the Wii uses 2.4ghz Bluetooth technology, the MiWi uses infrared technology, much like TV remotes. As a result, the wireless controls aren't as good as a real Wii. More on that in a bit.
The system comes with a "7-in-1" game cartridge that has the sports games on it. You can choose from "TV Karate", "Tennis", "Extreme Power Soccer", "Ping Pong", "Master Golf", "Bowling', and a baseball game called "World Series". There is another cartridge that has 32 arcade games on it, and they are "Highway Racing", "Tank", "Shudu" (Sudoku puzzle), "Hitting Mice", "Square" (Tetris clone), "Snake", "Boxes", "Lawn Purge", "Over-Speed Racing", "Diamond" (Arkanoid clone), "Archery", "Bee Fighting" (an odd Galaga clone), "Fish War", "Motorstorm", "Shooting Balloons", "Zuma" (yes, a Zuma clone with the actual name), "Fish War", "Aqua Mix", "Golden Gate", "Hammer", "Rugged Hammer", "Pro Crack", "Duel Soccer", "Harry", "Tiger Man", "Glass", "Smart Bomber" (Bomberman Clone), "Maze Pac" (another Tetris clone), "Apex Gun", "Farm Keeper", "Fancy", "Loop Legend", and finally, "Pets Crossing" (Frogger Clone). It's possible the MiWi that's posted here may have different games, but it will probably have at least some of the games included with mine.
Of course, the "7-in-1" sports games are supposed to take advantage of the wireless technology the system has. Because the system is based of traditional infrared wireless technology, the movements you make with the remote may not always get through to the system. It requires a combination of standing within the wireless IR range and also the orientation of the system itself. I tried several of the sports games, and when the system is positioned correctly, you can control the sports games much like a real Wii, but it will be hit and miss at best. "TV Karate" comes closest to being like a real Wii game. In fact, you can even control the sports games with the joypad A/B buttons, which means you don't have to use the remotes in a Wii-like fashion to begin with.
The "32-in-1" arcade cart is where the most fun comes, at least for me. Some of the games are actually fairly decent, such as "Square", "Shooting Balloons", "Diamond" and "Apex Gun". The arcade games can be controlled with the "Geniecon" remotes on their side or with the wireless arcade joypad. I recommend using the "Geniecon" remotes as the D-pad on the arcade joypad isn't the best.
At last, but definitely least, is the manual. What a joke. The manual that came with my MiWi has lots of mistranslated English, such as "Geniecon may plug with various fun accessories. This will bring more funny and interesting play". The manual doesn't even tell you how to use the "Soccer Transmitter" that comes with the system.
If you can't afford a Wii, you may want to give the MiWi (or the various other Wii clones) a try. Though the limited selection of games may get old after a few weeks though.

ZONE WIRELESS VIDEO GAME Review

(More customer reviews)I got the product Just a day ago used! I had a fear that It might not work just looking at the review's on amazon I would have that feeling that a used one would blow up on me. Since so many people said they had problems just buying it off the shelf (zone also avalible at cvs pharmacy). when I open it up it came in it's original box it seem like they lost the A/V cords becuse they threw in some old x-box A/V cords in but it didnt matter I noticed it needed batteries for every Item you used No Instructions but it was easy to follow. Cheapy plastic parts so dont get too mad when you get beat by the fake tennis character Rodger federer lol.
*My opinion*
I thought it was pretty cool system it has some flaws low bit graphics (16 bit) and they should have had some kind of load up screen to introduce the company like any other system (even snes had a start up screen), when you start it up it just comes on. My second flaw they should have had some kind of health disclamer (like the wii) for people thats out of shape or have heart problems there wasn't one on the box mabey there was one on the instruction sheet if a person passes out they (zone) will be sued. my third flaw The selection screen is weak you have to use the select and start button for every thing you use there is not alot of use for the A/B buttons after you done with one game you cannot got back to the main menu to choose another game if you do you must have to press alot of buttons, you have to reset the system to start over.
THE GOOD
After all ther criticism there is a shimmer of good which lead me to 3 stars, The game play is great for a 16 bit motion system. I was real shocked and I got a real work out from using the system the tennis game is a good game but I would do the final match you will pass out playing the whole game. The boxing game was cool but I belive they should have used a second controller like the wii to use both arms, you only use one. Ping pong was nice more kid orenented but it was good. The golf game was good fustrating at times but it was great game, the bowling game was good a little slow moving on the screen but good and also the baseball game was just like the wii that gave me a good workout also. The only game I really wasn't a fan of was the soccer to difficult and I dont understand why you use hand motion for soccer they should have replace that with another game mabey a quarter back throw or a fencing game. The wireless motion was great I mean on point I give that a 8/10 they took their time on that one
CONCLUSION
Please I repeat Please dont compare this to the wii if you do you wont have no fun playing this system, it just a small knock off for people that can afford the wii price but want to experience the motion gaming frenzy like me. I think zone was smart on doing this I think they should have took their time on it more, and made better games but dont expect to get great quality for 20 bucks you get the quaility for the price. Makes a nice stocking stuffer for the upcoming holidays for your grandkids or niece and nephew not for your own kids (buy the wii for your kid cheapo's lol). Or its a good idea like for me thats a x-box 360 or ps3 owner and you really dont want to buy another system my cousin bought the wii and dont even play it he plays his x-box 360 so you will be wasting money doing that.But good motion sensonrs cheaply and quickly made I believe they did that to satisfy the wii fans a.s.a.p. that were wating for weeks and the wii will always be sold out. So its not a bad way to have fun and be active it's better than buying $50 push up bars.

ExciteBots: Trick Racing Review

(More customer reviews)There is no question about the appeal of racing games on the Nintendo Wii. After the massive success of Mario Kart Wii last year, it has honestly been very difficult to see that if Nintendo can actually top itself again. Well, Nintendo has shown that eagerness again. When the Wii got launched in 2006, one of the introduction titles was Excite Truck. the game did a good job at showing the need for speed onto the Wii. But the game was sadly overlooked in place of other titles like Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and the dynamic Wii Sports, which of course came with the system. Well, Nintendo is going to try the racing series yet again, and this time it is a bit stranger than before.
Excitebots: Trick Racing for the Nintendo Wii, brings in the wild, and honestly a bit weird into the gaming, as you race not cars or trucks, but robotic animals. Yes, robotic animals like Bats, Grasshoppers and Beatles. It might seem akward, but it does bring in a new twist in racing. The gameplay does work as it did before with Excite Truck, the way to score and unlock new races, is to perform outrageous stunts like Ring Jumps, perform tricks, and smash your opponents. The graphics look good, but the gameplay is also interesting. You can control the game like you did before with Excite Truck, by steering the controler like it is a wheel, or you can also use the Wii Wheel, which comes with this package, or if you've bought Mario Kart Wii.
There are a few new things here that make the game a bit strange. One of the things includes the extra bonuses you get during the race, are from racing stunts like throwing and scoring in darts, from trying to score a bowling strike, to tossing a pie in the clowns' face. You can also score stars by performing twirls on hanging bars. This requires a lot of control and especially tight timing. The other new feature is the use to play against other racers online through the Wi-Fi. It makes the games a bit interesting, as you score your way first to the finish line, as you and as many as 5 other racers make your way through tracks around the world from Asia, Africa, and Europe.
While there are a lot of new things here, there sadly is a few faults with the game. The first big disadvantage is the control. It can be very tricky at first, but it takes awhile to get used to. Also, unlike Mario Kart Wii, you cannot use the Gamecube or Wii Classic Controllers either. The game mainly uses the Wii-mote. The second disadvantage is the online gaming. While you can race against other Excitebots online, they could've allowed it to allow more than just 6 racers for a match.
You can buy Excitebots: Trick Racing with, or without the Wii Wheel definitely. But, if you haven't bought Mario Kart Wii, you might want to get the expanded version with the Wii Wheel, for a bit more extreme gameplay. Nevertheless, despite a few faults, Excitebots: Trick Racing definitely brings in a bit of weirdness into gameplay that is sure to knock you off your rockers. If you haven't yet played Excite Truck, than you'll definitely want a new spin on what makes the Wii extreme with Excitebots: Trick Racing.

101-in-1 Explosive Megamix Review

(More customer reviews)I've played this game quite a few times now and I'm really enjoying it. I really like how you collect gold coins by setting high scores which then enables you to buy/unlock new games. The selection of unlocked games that is given at the start is very good, I think about 10 in total. After playing them all once I've been able to buy several new games, without struggling for coins, yet. The further you proceed the higher the cost is of each game :).
The difficulty of each games varies, some games I've been able to complete first attempt, as there is required score for each game in order for it be classified as cleared. However if you clear a game you can still go back and play it and earn coins for the scores you get. Also if you are unable to get the required score to clear the game, you still get coins for the score that you managed. On the other hand, I've attempted some games several times and still haven't reached the required score ;).
I've played so far about 25 of the games, and for all of them I've only had to use the stylus, so I'm assuming it's purely a stylus based game. For each of the games which I've played, there is an instructions button before playing, which is very useful. The instructions have been nice, clear and obvious :D.
The graphics of the game is very nicely put together. Also the game offers 6 languages, English, German, Spanish Italian, French and (I think) Dutch. I think if you like short fun games then you'll probably quite like this (each individual game is around 2 minutes), I think it's something which both kids and adults will have fun playing. :D

Wii Sports Resort Review

(More customer reviews)I recently purchased Wii Sports Resort along with the included Wii Motion Plus, and it has been an excellent game so far. Included are 12 games, 10 of which are new and two of which are updates to the classic Wii Sports games- golf and bowling.
Starting with the updates, I feel that Wii Motion Plus adds a lot to the gameplay for the golf game. More sensitive controls make it far more challenging endeavor, adding somewhat to the realism of the game. Also, I find that it is a lot more enjoyable to swing the club in this game than it was in the original. In bowling, it is much easier to add a spin to the ball. Of the additions, I would say that archery and swordplay are standouts, and I wouldn't be surprised if they make it into other Nintendo releases (i.e. Zelda). The game captures the illusion of actually playing with swords or a bow-and-arrow really well. I also really enjoyed most of the water sports, especially power cruising, which reminded me of Wave Race. Some of the sports, on the other hand, are less satisfying, such as cycling, since pedaling with your arms does not feel natural.
The Wii has seen a lot of "waggle-fests" released, and the nice thing about including Wii Motion Plus is that it really improves the motion-sensing fidelity of the Wiimote. I hope more games use this accessory in the future. For some of the multiplayer events, you may need to purchase additional copies of Wii Motion Plus (or get it bundled with another game), while others simply allow you to pass one Wii remote around. The graphics of the game are simple and colorful, and the game features nice water effects.
However, here are a few aspects of the game that I wish were better. Although this game has more depth than the original Wii Sports, with more games, multiple game play modes, and achievements, I still wish that there was some additional depth to some of the games (i.e. more courses, objectives, etc.), especially considering how enjoyable some of the activities are. Some people found that the original Wii Sports did not have sufficient depth, and those individuals may be disappointed. Also, it would have been nice to have online play for this game, since the game really seems to shine in multiplayer, and it is not always easy to find others to play.
Overall, I think that most people who enjoyed Wii Sports will similarly enjoy Wii Sports Resort.

Game Party 2 Review

(More customer reviews)I'll be honest: I liked Game Party 1, even though the controls were awful (Ping Cup was completely unplayable and Darts was frustrating at best). I liked the variety of games which were perfect choices for a motion-controled console, but it just wasn't developed well and wasn't my top choice for parties.
Enter Game Party 2. I felt a bit silly buying a game that I already had the majority of (GP2 contains all of the games from GP1 plus some extras) but I read a preliminary review from a gaming website and decided to give it a try. The controls are greatly improved. Still not perfect, but at least I feel like where I aim is where I'm (generally) going to land. Aim in GP1, and you'll probably hit somewhere else entirely.
GP1 had many, many pages of characters to choose from. GP2 doesn't have as much of a variety, but you can create your own custom player and save your stats. I'll actually pick up GP2 and play by myself, which I never did with GP1. Too frustrating. By obtaining tickets, you can purchase new things for your characters to wear; I haven't gotten that far yet since the games I played the most didn't offer tickets. It's nice that you can obtain tickets even while playing with friends, something that most games do not offer.
There is also a tournament mode in GP2 which is great if you have more than 4 people who want to play (up to 16, depending on the game). There are a lot of ways to conduct the tournament, such as loser goes home, an actual brackets advancement, and so on. Depending on which one you pick (we did a winner takes all), you can choose how many rounds (3, 5, or I believe 9) before the winner is declared.
The thing I disliked the most about GP2 gameplay was how it was arranged. Perhaps we didn't have the right settings (we cancelled out of a tournament to play individual games, so maybe it was still stuck on tournament mode), but there were just 3 of us and it was forcing 2 of us to be on a team and the other person to play solo. I would have preferred for each of us to have our own scores. Another bummer was the number of games that required you to throw underhand; we switched between games just to give our arms a rest!
Now for the games. There are 11 total, all of the ones from GP1 plus some new additions.
- Darts: Again, thanks to the improved aiming function, this game is playable. I really enjoy it. The venue where you are playing changes, so it's nice to be somewhere other than the pub in GP1.
- Skillball: Venue is a little sharper, and again the aiming helps, but it's still pretty straightforward. (I am a fan of the version on Carnival Games, so I'm used to a different style.) However, you can roll more than one ball at once, so long as the other one is on its way to falling in a hole, you can toss another ball. Since this is timed, it's however many points you can get before the buzzer sounds, rather than having 6 balls and seeing how many you can score. In that regard, I wasn't actually trying to get in the 100 slot and was just trying to throw as many balls as I could.
- Shuffleboard: It's quite a bit better than GP1, again because of the improved engine. We had a lot of fun playing this, and there are other options (first to 15, first to 21, and same for a version called curling which is arrange like a bullseye). I like it in real life, and this is a great substitute.
- Ping Cup: Wow, this is probably the most improved game. In GP1, this was virtually unplayable. It was so hard, I never played it. So when we decided to try it out in GP2, I warned everyone how frustrating it was. To my surprise, it was easy and pretty fun.
- Hoop Shoot: Again, my view of this is colored by Carnival Games, but it was okay. I landed only two baskets, so I was apparently doing something wrong. With a little practice, it can be fun, just tiring for your arm!
- Trivia: As with GP1, I just don't get this game, and the instructions are still not helpful. I tend to skip over it.
- Quarterback Challenge: The onscreen instructions helped me understand what was going on, and once I figured it out, it was enjoyable. Basically, you're trying to throw to your (yellow) team mates to advance and score a touch down. Throw to the wrong player, and you lose points. Whoever has the most points at the end wins. It takes some practice.
- Puck Bowling: This was amusing. It's similar to shuffleboard, except you are hitting the bowling pins at the end. Picking up a split is virtually impossible, so you have to be spot on with your aiming (and again, it's easier than if this game was on GP1). Very straightforward.
- Lawn Darts: Try to land inside the circles to score points. It's hard to tell where your dart will land based on the camera angle, so you just have to get used to the motion of throwing underhand.
- Horseshoes: This was frustrating at first. We couldn't score any points. Of course, a refresher on how horseshoes is actually scored helped us, and we were doing much better by game's end. Underhand throwing again.
- Bean Bags: I was really looking forward to this one, and it wasn't as great as I had hoped. First, it's played indoors, which was strange to me. But the board you're throwing to has different designs. Also, your throws don't seem to upset the bean bags that have already landed which makes it a bit less realistic. It's hard to knock your opponent's bags off. On the other hand, points don't cancel out so I guess there's less of a reason to do so.
Game Party 2 is a good addition to your Wii party game collection. It's not perfect, but it provides enough games that people are familiar with to be enjoyable, and the changes over GP1 make it a much more worthy purchase.

Tropix (Jewel Case) Review

(More customer reviews)My wife asked for this game after reading other reviews, so I found it here and bought it. I never thought a game could be so much fun and addictive. She will sit for nearly an hour and play this game! It is basically a bunch of different games within a game where you try to earn money to buy tropical islands and then outfit your islands with stuff for your monkey to use. Some of the mini games are: solitaire, a shooting game called "Puffer Popper" and "Cascade" where you must make fruit matches of three before the entire board "freezes." Once you buy enough items to make your monkey "happy" you will earn new games to play. Our 5-year old even loves to play the games - and she's good at some of them.

LeapFrog Leapster Explorer Learning Game: The Penguins of Madagascar: Operation Plushy Rescue Review

(More customer reviews)My son just turned 3 and has been playing on his leapster for a few months now. We have a few games and apps, but this is by far his/our favorite game. It's a fun AND funny game (gotta love those penguins) with age appropriate lessons in math in between the levels. I love the leapster b/c he can use his finger or the stylus pen (similar to my iphone - which he's always grabbing for). The math questions are simple and get increasingly difficult as you progress. He can do the easy ones himself...but as they get more difficult he needs my help. He can read and knows his numbers and simple math - so it's fun to sit down w/ him and figure out the problems. Sample math questions are:
-which is the largest group?
-which is the smallest group?
-which box has 4 wires in it?
-which box has more than 1 wire in it?
-drag 6 candies into Rico's bowl
-what number comes next in the sequences - 6, 7, _, 9
etc...
There are also shapes questions - dragging shapes into a box w/ your finger or the pen - and rotating them to fit - which is pretty neat.
All in all, I think this is the best game leapster has so far. The levels are fun, the math/shapes lessons are great, the spy music is entertaining and not annoying (for me), and your child will be using the d-pad, his finger, the pen etc. and I think it's great for their coordination.

Plants Vs. Zombies Review

(More customer reviews)For the uninitiated, let me say that Plants vs. Zombies is an amazing game. It's fun/funny, and something that can be played in short bursts, or for hours (if you lose track of time...). The general idea is that of a tower defense strategy game. You gather sunshine so you can grow plants that have either offensive or defensive purposes, so you can protect yourself from the onslought of zombies. It's real-time, meaning that as you are planting the zombies are attacking.
Really the question here shouldn't be, "should I buy Plants vs Zombies?". You should, but do you want this particular package? On the xbox 360 they have Plants vs. Zombies available as a downloadable arcade game for 1200 Microsoft Points (the equivalent of $15). It's the same game as what's offered on this disc. However, this disc includes the additional games "Zuma" and the amazing "Peggle" (a $5 and $10 value, respectively). Definately something to consider if you haven't already purchased either of those games.
My one caveat would be that you can't install the games individually to your xbox, nor can you install the entire disc to the hard drive (this allows for shorter load times and for the system to run quietly. If you were to download the game it would automatically work this way). However, this has nothing to do with the actual game, just the package itself.

Sonic Free Riders Review

(More customer reviews)Let me introduce Sonic, master of the most grueling thigh workout on the Kinect. You probably thought you'd need to buy an exercise title featuring a screaming trainer to get a good workout. Well, it turns out this little racer will bring you to your knees as you use your whole body to twist, turn and jump your hoverboard through 16 tracks.
You can upgrade your board gear temporarily with energy pickups like a soda rocket or fully to extreme gear, which is available in both board and bike formats. The hoverboard reacts like a snowboard on steroids. Maneuvering requires your whole body:
*Cornering involves bending your body forward at the waist or backwards to steer;
*Jumping is self-explanatory but power jumping requires you to crouch down for a few seconds before leaping into the air;
*A kick dash is completed using a kick gesture using your back foot with a good follow-through;
*Braking requires squaring your shoulders toward the screen; and
*Your hands are kept busy to catch rings, grab horizontal bars, wipe away foggy screens and to cling to the bottom of trains (?!).
The game provides an extensive tutorial along with a host named Omochao, who also serves as the game commentator. I highly recommend casual gamers take the time to go through the tutorials. This isn't a bowling game you can simply step up and play.
I completed two racetracks and slumped into the couch. A trickle of sweat ran along my spine, my legs trembling. Brain synapse fired in all directions and soon I was hearing Robert Klein wailing on the harmonica and singing "I can't stop my leg."
The gameplay is not as extensive as the granddaddy of kart racers, Mario Kart DS. However, what Sonic Free Riders lacks in depth is more than made up with by the physical racing experience that comes from using the Kinect system. Even my 8-year old son stopped after competing in four consecutive races to catch his breath and get a drink of water.
So, what are the negatives?
*The controls are not perfect. Don't let early frustration turn you away. The game doesn't respond as smoothly as it would if we were gripping steering wheels. We found it helped to recalibrate the Kinect for this game and widen our playing area a couple feet to allow side-by-side racing.
*The menus are maddening. I'm tired of sweeping options left and right. Game designers need to hold back their Kinect zeal. Keep the menus basic, like a simple drop-down menu format, and save the wild moves for the game itself.
*The online features aren't that attractive. Fortunately for us, with four in our family, there's plenty of competition at home.
In summary, if you are willing to invest practice time, this is a fun, family game that also delivers a good full-body workout, too. With the initial library of Kinect games including dogs like Game Party: In Motion, "Sonic Free Riders" is a good value, especially for kids. Rating: Four stars.
