BOWLING FOR SCREAMS Review

BOWLING FOR SCREAMS
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Sometimes, even Monsters need a break! When players join one eyed Mike Wazowski for a action packed game of bowling, they won't want to stop playing. The game also has great graphics and two difficulty settings-Scary and Horrifying.
In order to make a strike, you'll need to guide your ball. Obstacles such as ramps and pinball style bumpers are all over the bowling alley, so be careful! You can also collect cool power-ups, like one that can make your ball explode upon impact with the pins.
I had SO much fun while playing this thing, and I think anyone who liked the movie will have a blast with this. I really hope Disney will make arcade games as good as this one for some of their other movies, like "The Emporer's New Groove".

Taiko Drum Master w/Drumcon Review

Taiko Drum Master w/Drumcon
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For years, my favorite videogame genre has been the Music genre. From games like Um Jammer Lammy and Parappa the Rapper on the Playstation, to Space channel 5, Samba de Amigo, and Dance dance revolution on dreamcast, to newer classics like Frequency, Amplitude, Gitaroo man and Karaoke revolution on the PS2, I've always been a huge fan.
The genre is often limited to a small audiance of enthusiasts though, and rarely sell well. Fortunately, Namco took a chance and released this game in America after popular demand!
The game includes a large drum in the package (I'd say its about 6 inches tall With the stand (maybe 4" without it) and has 4 hit points as well as 2 buttons (Start and Select), Along with the drum are 2 large plastic drumsticks (Also about an inch thick).
The game itself has 2 real modes, TAIKO MODE and MINI GAME mode.
In Taiko mode, you play through 31 songs divided into categories.
The tracklisting in this mode is:
POP
* ABC (jackson 5)
* Thats the way I like it (KC And the sunchine band)
* The impression that I get (Mighty Mighty bosstones)
* Tubthumping (Chumbawamba)
* Walking on Sunshine (Unknown)
* Material Girl (Madonna)
* Love Shack (B-52's)
* Toxic (Britney spears)
* I'm a believer (Unknown)
ROCK
* Slide (googoo dolls)
* American Girls (Unknown)
* Girls and Boys (Good Charlotte)
* Killer Queen (Queen)
* Lady Marmalade (Pink, Little kim, Christina aguilera, Mya)
* Are you gonna be my girl (Jet)
* My Sharona (Unknown)
ANIME/TV
* Dragon ball Z theme (Rock the dragon)
* Jimmy Neutron theme (Bowling for soup)CLASSICAL
* Beethovens symphony #5
* William tell overture
* Carmen prelude
* Foster;s Medley
* Symphony No. 25 in G-Minor
* Hungarian Dances #5
NAMCO ORIGINAL
* Soul Calibur 2 (Brave sword, braver soul)
* The genji and the heike clans
* Ridge Racer
* Taiko March
* Don Rangers
* Katamari on the rocks (Katamari Damacy theme)
* Dragon SpiritHowever, its worth noting that besides the Namco original songs, the other songs are all 'recreations' meaning its not actually Britney Spears singing it, its a 'similar sounding artist'. Fortunately, all of the songs sound great and real true to the originals (This isnt a "Kids Bop" type thing).
Some songs (Like Killer Queen actually sound better (to me) than the original versions).
Each song has a difficulty level, as well as a point scale, which works as follows:
EASY (1-10)
NORMAL (1-10)
HARD (1-10)
ONI (1-10)
Its a bit tricky to figure out the full difficulty (Comparing an "Easy - 5" to a "Normal - 3"), but you'll quickly learn your limits.
My problem with the songs though, is when they release a game with such a limited audiance who enjoys a particular type of music for the most part, I dont see why they had to replace most of it with some of this music to appeal to a younger 'teeny bopper' audiance (I personally don't want to play ABC, Material Girl, I'm a believer, Slide, or classical music over and over!)
Fortunately, it has some redeeming songs, My favorites to play being:
Tubthumping, Walking on sunshine, Love Shack, Toxic, Lady Marmalade, Girls and Boys, Killer Queen, Are you gonna be my girl, and My Sharona.
Onto the drum, as I mentioned it has 4 hit points.
The right surface part, the left surface part, the right side, the left side, Start, and Select.
Onto the actual game, it works like most music games. A bar appears on the center of the screen, and on the bar certain icons scroll by from right to left, Once the icons hit the "target zone", you hit that button.
The icons that appear are:
* RED (Hit the LEFT or RIGHT surface)
* BLUE (tap the LEFT or RIGHT edge of the drum)
* BIG RED (Hit the LEFT and RIGHT surfaces simultaneously)
* BIG BLUE (tap the LEFT and RIGHT edges of the drum simultaneously)
* YELLOW LINE (Do a drum roll on the left & right surfaces until the end of the line)
* BALLOON (Tap the left and right surfaces repeatedly until the balloon inflates and explodes)
Sounds difficult, but it's really not.
In the game, the 2 surfaces act as the "ENTER" button, the left side and right side act as left and right, and you can hit START for extra songs (main menu, quit, restart, song select)
The drum itself is pretty good, but does take some getting used to, to determine how hard to hit it, and where exactly to do it to make it 'count'.
Onto the MINIGAME Mode, you have only 3 minigames available.
One is a WATERMELON game where you hit both the surfaces of the drum as fast as possible to 'eat' a watermelon, and see how fast you can eat them.
In the FIREWORKS game, a firework or bomb is placed in front of you, you need to either hit the surface of the drum to launch the firework, or tap the side to throw the bomb away, the more you do, the faster it gets, and if you mess up, you need to start at the slow speed again (I like this game a lot)
The final game is the BALANCE game, You appear as a Dog standing straight up. Every few seconds another dog will appear on your shoulders.. After a few appear, you'll begin to lose balance and sway to one side.. You must then hit the side of the drum in the direction you want to go (if you lean left, hit left to move that way and balance out), it gets real tricky. Once you reach the top (About 10 dogs high) there is a helicopter, You must be standing straight, then hit the drum to grab on, This game is also a lot of fun.
All in all, its a real fun game, and some of the levels are insanely challenging (And I never see myself being able to beat them!), others have a nice easy mode for beginners.
My biggest gripe is the song selection though.
If you're a music fan, it's definately worth playing. I would recommend going through the list of songs though, and seeing if they appeal to you at all. If you dont like that music, you wont like this game much.
I give this game a 4/5 and hope a sequal or expansion pack comes along!

New Knits on the Block: A Guide to Knitting What Kids Really Want Review

New Knits on the Block: A Guide to Knitting What Kids Really Want
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Vickie Howell hosts a knitting show (Knitty Gritty, on the DIY channel) that lives up to its promise of being "fierce, fresh, and fabulous," and so does her first book. I have to admire the editors who had the nerve to use a cover shot showing Vickie holding oversize needles draped with hopeless tangles of yarn - and a "what-me-worry?" grin on her face! Don't you worry either - inside you'll find clearly laid out instructions for some of the most winsome and winning children's gear you've ever seen. This new collection of accessories, hats, garments, and costumes for the young and the young-at-heart will make you gasp with delight.
I have two personal favorites which I would wear together were I still of trick-or-treating age, and call myself a sea-horse: designer Tinna Marrin's mermaid costume (which has to rank among the top five renditions of mermaid costumes ever designed by human hands - this one is elegant, convincing, and ever so mermaid-like, with the most life-like tail you can imagine, except that it makes you want to cuddle it) and the felted unicorn hat (not just a spiraling horn, but also two totally horse-like ears, all perfectly sculpted in felt), designed by Christina Benedetti.
Bev Galeskas designed the felted wizard and princess hats, sure to please the Harry Potter fans in your life. If you've ever wanted to try needle-felting, the book offers clear instructions as one method of applying stars to the wizard hat. I'm sure that when J.K. Rowling's seventh book comes out, there will be hundreds of these wizard hats topping the heads of young and not-so-young wizards in bookstore lines.
Vickie thinks out of the box - that's for sure - in this case the card box. She's designed a knitted version (backed in fabric) of the classic memory card game, offering a knitter who's never worked two-color knitting before a chance to try it on these small squares. She also offers a knitted, squishy bowling set which can be played harmlessly (and in theory anyway, silently, early Saturday morning while the parents are still asleep) in the house.
Lori Steinberg designed a pirate bath set which will make your little rascal walk the plank right into the foamy sea of the tub. It includes a friendly sponge-stuffed parrot, a Jolly Rogers washcloth, a fine hat, and best of all, a black eyepatch. You may need to design and knit a large shark to throw into the bath if your pruny little pirate refuses to get out.
Kids revel in fantasy play and nowadays have less and less time for it because of their busy schedules, TV, computers, and the academic demands that are put on them at a younger and younger age. The knitted things in this wonderful book (which I hope is the first of several) can change that for the child in your life. Let them watch the costume or plaything or garment come into being in your hands and on your needles, endowing the completed object with your love and a special enchantment to be carried into fantasy play. Some of the simpler pieces would be good starting points for a child who wants to learn to knit - casting the spell of knitting over them for a lifetime. I think this book lives up to its subtitle: "A guide to knitting what kids really want." Go for it!

Halex Classic Series Bocce Set (100mm Liquid Filled Balls) Review

Halex Classic Series Bocce Set (100mm Liquid Filled Balls)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Garbage.
I returned them.
If you want these to keep some kids busy, fine. Otherwise spend the money to get real bocce balls. These are made from a soft plastic so they don't knock each other around like they should, they just sort of bump. They are water filled and vary from 100% full to half full. So they don't weigh the same or behave the same. That makes it impossible to be consistent.
Completely worthless junk unless, like I said, you need to keep some kids busy. In that case they are very inexpensive fun crap. But don't leave them where they could freeze. I'm sure the ones that are 100% full would crack open if they froze.

ZONE WIRELESS VIDEO GAME Review

ZONE WIRELESS VIDEO GAME
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got the product Just a day ago used! I had a fear that It might not work just looking at the review's on amazon I would have that feeling that a used one would blow up on me. Since so many people said they had problems just buying it off the shelf (zone also avalible at cvs pharmacy). when I open it up it came in it's original box it seem like they lost the A/V cords becuse they threw in some old x-box A/V cords in but it didnt matter I noticed it needed batteries for every Item you used No Instructions but it was easy to follow. Cheapy plastic parts so dont get too mad when you get beat by the fake tennis character Rodger federer lol.
*My opinion*
I thought it was pretty cool system it has some flaws low bit graphics (16 bit) and they should have had some kind of load up screen to introduce the company like any other system (even snes had a start up screen), when you start it up it just comes on. My second flaw they should have had some kind of health disclamer (like the wii) for people thats out of shape or have heart problems there wasn't one on the box mabey there was one on the instruction sheet if a person passes out they (zone) will be sued. my third flaw The selection screen is weak you have to use the select and start button for every thing you use there is not alot of use for the A/B buttons after you done with one game you cannot got back to the main menu to choose another game if you do you must have to press alot of buttons, you have to reset the system to start over.
THE GOOD
After all ther criticism there is a shimmer of good which lead me to 3 stars, The game play is great for a 16 bit motion system. I was real shocked and I got a real work out from using the system the tennis game is a good game but I would do the final match you will pass out playing the whole game. The boxing game was cool but I belive they should have used a second controller like the wii to use both arms, you only use one. Ping pong was nice more kid orenented but it was good. The golf game was good fustrating at times but it was great game, the bowling game was good a little slow moving on the screen but good and also the baseball game was just like the wii that gave me a good workout also. The only game I really wasn't a fan of was the soccer to difficult and I dont understand why you use hand motion for soccer they should have replace that with another game mabey a quarter back throw or a fencing game. The wireless motion was great I mean on point I give that a 8/10 they took their time on that one
CONCLUSION
Please I repeat Please dont compare this to the wii if you do you wont have no fun playing this system, it just a small knock off for people that can afford the wii price but want to experience the motion gaming frenzy like me. I think zone was smart on doing this I think they should have took their time on it more, and made better games but dont expect to get great quality for 20 bucks you get the quaility for the price. Makes a nice stocking stuffer for the upcoming holidays for your grandkids or niece and nephew not for your own kids (buy the wii for your kid cheapo's lol). Or its a good idea like for me thats a x-box 360 or ps3 owner and you really dont want to buy another system my cousin bought the wii and dont even play it he plays his x-box 360 so you will be wasting money doing that.But good motion sensonrs cheaply and quickly made I believe they did that to satisfy the wii fans a.s.a.p. that were wating for weeks and the wii will always be sold out. So its not a bad way to have fun and be active it's better than buying $50 push up bars.

ExciteBots: Trick Racing Review

ExciteBots: Trick Racing
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There is no question about the appeal of racing games on the Nintendo Wii. After the massive success of Mario Kart Wii last year, it has honestly been very difficult to see that if Nintendo can actually top itself again. Well, Nintendo has shown that eagerness again. When the Wii got launched in 2006, one of the introduction titles was Excite Truck. the game did a good job at showing the need for speed onto the Wii. But the game was sadly overlooked in place of other titles like Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and the dynamic Wii Sports, which of course came with the system. Well, Nintendo is going to try the racing series yet again, and this time it is a bit stranger than before.
Excitebots: Trick Racing for the Nintendo Wii, brings in the wild, and honestly a bit weird into the gaming, as you race not cars or trucks, but robotic animals. Yes, robotic animals like Bats, Grasshoppers and Beatles. It might seem akward, but it does bring in a new twist in racing. The gameplay does work as it did before with Excite Truck, the way to score and unlock new races, is to perform outrageous stunts like Ring Jumps, perform tricks, and smash your opponents. The graphics look good, but the gameplay is also interesting. You can control the game like you did before with Excite Truck, by steering the controler like it is a wheel, or you can also use the Wii Wheel, which comes with this package, or if you've bought Mario Kart Wii.
There are a few new things here that make the game a bit strange. One of the things includes the extra bonuses you get during the race, are from racing stunts like throwing and scoring in darts, from trying to score a bowling strike, to tossing a pie in the clowns' face. You can also score stars by performing twirls on hanging bars. This requires a lot of control and especially tight timing. The other new feature is the use to play against other racers online through the Wi-Fi. It makes the games a bit interesting, as you score your way first to the finish line, as you and as many as 5 other racers make your way through tracks around the world from Asia, Africa, and Europe.
While there are a lot of new things here, there sadly is a few faults with the game. The first big disadvantage is the control. It can be very tricky at first, but it takes awhile to get used to. Also, unlike Mario Kart Wii, you cannot use the Gamecube or Wii Classic Controllers either. The game mainly uses the Wii-mote. The second disadvantage is the online gaming. While you can race against other Excitebots online, they could've allowed it to allow more than just 6 racers for a match.
You can buy Excitebots: Trick Racing with, or without the Wii Wheel definitely. But, if you haven't bought Mario Kart Wii, you might want to get the expanded version with the Wii Wheel, for a bit more extreme gameplay. Nevertheless, despite a few faults, Excitebots: Trick Racing definitely brings in a bit of weirdness into gameplay that is sure to knock you off your rockers. If you haven't yet played Excite Truck, than you'll definitely want a new spin on what makes the Wii extreme with Excitebots: Trick Racing.
Graphics: B
Sound: B
Control: B 1/2-
Fun & Enjoyment: B- for solo; B 1/2- for multiplayer

Gameplay In ExciteBots: Trick Racing players race around internationally located tracks in the form of their favorite insect, amphibian or mammal themed bot. Each bot has its own special abilities which will serve players well when they find themselves on the right terrain to take advantage of these. As with pretty much any racing game, a major goal is to complete the course at the highest speed possible, but players are also tasked with performing stunts and participating in mini-games. Players win bonus stars for crossing the finish line sooner, but stunts, style and these mini-games are as important as speed. For example: have you ever wished that you could play poker while racing? Think you can toss a dart or roll a bowling ball while leaving the competition in the dust? ExciteBots provides you with your chance. Stars can be traded for a variety of goodies, like new vehicles, tracks, icons and statues. Control Schemes The control scheme of ExciteBots is easy and fun. The game canbe played with just a Wii Remote or via the combinationof a Wii Remote and a Nintendo Wheel accessory/any third party wheel.The 2 Button on the Wii Remote controller is the gas. The + control padgives drivers a speed boost. Players turn the Wii Wheel accessory leftor right to steer, tilt the Wii Wheel in midair to glide or to adjustpitch for perfect landings, swing the Wii Wheel in circular motions aroundboost bars to build up speed and press the A Button to activate itemsor to cash in hands in Poker Mode. Key Features
Special ExciteBots: Trick Racing bundle features included Nintendo Wii Wheel.
The game takes the big-air thrills and simple pick-up-and-play controls of ExciteTruck and ramps up the fun with a constant barrage of funky challenges and mini-games performed at blinding speed. Players shoot goals, throw pies and even play poker in the middle of rowdy races around off-road tracks.
Having your vehicles drive, walk or fly around the track quickly is one thing, but it's more important to go around in style. Players earn stars for huge jumps, cool tricks and daring feats at high speed.
Six players can race online* via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection in both Excite Race and Poker Race modes. If friends can't join online, players can exchange ghost data via WiiConnect24 and challenge their friends to outdo their most daring tricks.
2-player multiplayer versus mode featuring split screen display is also available for local play.
Special Moves Just as in ExciteTruck, drivers can hit blocks that morph the terrain before their eyes and create ramps from which players can launch mega-jumps. Players can aim for and swing around boost bars or open presents that unleash a variety of wild items, such as bottle rocket boosts or clacker mouths that chomp on other racers to slow them down. Mini-Games Now what about those mini-games. Do you know of any other game that features high-speed robotic racers combined with bowling, poker, clown faces and sandwich making? Didn't think so, but how do these game work?
Soccer: Drive into the soccer ball and attempt to hit it into the goal.
Bowling: Drive through the pins and attempt to get a strike.
Darts: Line up your bot and let the dart fly. Try to hit bull's-eye in the distance.
Clowns: Hit the clown in the face with a pie by throwing it at just the right angle and speed.
Sandwiches: Drive through the ingredients in the proper order to make a delicious sandwich.

My goodness, who would in his right mind will go out and buy a NES copy of Championship Bowling for fifty bucks back then? Surely, not me. I got this for free, and I dreaded the idea of turning the game on and trying it out. Wow, the actual game play...I just want to drop a 20 pounder on my head. After fifteen minutes of lameness into Championship Bowling, I was able to get 7 strikes and 5 spares for a score of 235. The sheer...joy...of the game...*cries*....I am sprouting follicles all over...my body! They are turning...green! No..no...no...it is the end...of the...world for...me! Clutching to my...beaten...up...copy of...Championship Bowling.....save me! Please...save me! Jesus...no...........

Geek Chic: The Zoey Zone Review

Geek Chic: The Zoey Zone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Eleven-year-old (Okay, more like ten and seven-eighths) Zoey Zinevich has figured out exactly what she needs before sixth grade starts in 198 days: a fairy godmother!
A good FG could fix up her hair, help her accessorize and make her "chic" (which can be used as both a noun and an adjective). Maybe with that kind of outside help, she and her friend, Venus, could eat lunch at The Table Bashley (ruled by Brittany and Ashley) instead of being banished to Table Ten, where Alex Shemtob inhales his food and exhales it again. Woe to those not wearing an art smock.
A surprise photo shoot at Harry S. Truman School by U GrL magazine brings Zoey's interests in presidents and molto retro clothing (molto means "very" in Italian, and retro means Zoey's grandpop's bowling shirt and fedora) to the spotlight. The creative director, a chic Lady in Black named Jazz, seems especially taken with Zoey's hat.
Could Jazz be the FG Zoey's been waiting for, or will she be stuck at Table Ten with bad hair forever?
Told in an almost multi-media format, using TV scripts and stills from "ZTube" videos produced by Zoey herself, this story will appeal to younger female fans of books like DIARY OF A WIMPY KID and MIDDLE SCHOOL IS WORSE THAN MEATLOAF.
The ending may be a bit unrealistic, but I'm anxious to see if this might lead to more Zoey stories in the future.

Cosmic Family Review

Cosmic Family
Average Reviews:

We bought the Wii game system back in January or February. I have a ten year old and a four year old. The ten year old loves it, absolutely. I think he'd be willing to give up a kidney rather than lose the Wii (and I have to concur). The four year old was a little disillusioned because she can't quite get the hang of the games. She was almost okay with baseball and bowling, but not quite. So when the rest of us wanted to Wii, she'd get annoyed, then annoying. She'd march through our bowling alley demanding to be heard!
Then I stumbled upon Cosmic Family. The genius of this game is that it is aimed at 4-8 year olds, and is excellent for hand-eye coordination, problem-solving, and has music and dancing segments that made my daughter start dancing around the room (physical exercise). She found this game extremely user friendly (took her about 5 minutes to get the hang of it), and there's an elephant you can click if you get stuck. There's puzzles, interactive games, and a family that lives in rocket ship...what can be cooler than that?
I can see the advantages to her playing this game already. It will help her with future mouse-control on the computer, and as previously stated, the problem-solving skills are very beneficial. To give an example, there is a "mixed-up" room that she needs to point, click and drag to the right area. When she gets the room in proper order, confetti covers the screen, and music plays. She gets to progress to the next level, or keep solving more of the same puzzles.
We've only had the game one day so far, but she loves it, and so do I. :)

Penny Racers Party: Turbo-Q Speedway Review

Penny Racers Party: Turbo-Q Speedway
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bought this game for my little brother (he is 7 and an avid Mario Kart player). This game has several strong points going for it: great pick up and play game play with the Wii wheel for all ages (he is 7, I am 22 and it presents challenges to the both of us), also there are many, many cars from such as real models (NSX, Skyline, Lancer Evo, etc) to comical fake models such as a bowl of ramen noodles and monster trucks. Also the ability to customize and tune your car is a wonderful addition when compared to the static karts in Mario Kart. You can unlock something with a first place in most every race so right from the get go, the game gives you motivation to keep playing.
The game lacks in a few areas when compared to Mario Kart however. The weapons are not as fun or as diverse as in MK. Also, the graphics are a bit rougher but not by too much. Lastly, the track selection is not nearly as vast as in Mario Kart, but I have not unlocked all of them so that could change in the days to come. Still, most races take place on a few tracks, but are just run on different circuits or in different directions to keep things interesting/challenging.
All points aside, Penny Racers is a great game and when used with the Wii Wheel it makes for an enjoyable experience for all ages.
