Shoes fit well, I was surprised that there was a decent amount of arch support. I guess I was so used to old, rental shoes. I'm very excited to use these from now on.

Herbert Collins has produced a great resource for research of family history in this part of Virginia.
A lot of highlighting to do here!
Hope to see his work at the library in Bowling Green.

Sweethearts of the Twilight Lanes Review

Sweethearts of the Twilight Lanes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I will admit to being very picky about romance novels and do not go in for the really steamy boy meets girl meets every body part and position type of story. Those are fine but not for me. I want to think the population of a book I spend my time and money on have lives before and after the story and depth beyond the romantic entanglement. This one gets it right with characters that would make fun neighbors and friends. Flynn Garvey is not the arrogant type but the stuff of real heroes. Tess Harding is made much more human by her affection for her nutty group of friends. The despcriptions of the town add a calming quality while the pacing of the plotline keeps things moving. I hope Ms. Jones' debut novel is not her last, nor is it our last visit with The Sweethearts of The Twilight Lanes. The story just screams sequel!

Frankly, My Dear...As the doyenne of Simply Southern Magazine, Tess Redding is the soul of southern hospitality -- or at least to the world around Mount Circe, Georgia. But when bad boy Flynn Garvey roars back into town, Tess's plans to leave Mount Circe are suddenly in danger of burning hotter than Atlanta after Sherman. Once upon a time the smooth-talking rebel broke her young heart, now Tess is just determined to have nothing to do with the mouth-watering, trouble-on-two-legs charmer. But then Tess and her best pals, the Sweethearts, begin to receive anonymous blackmail notes that threaten to expose their youthful follies. Having her old exploits with Flynn revealed is the last thing Tess's sweeter-than-molasses image needs, and he is the only one who can help her. So all that's left for Tess to do is put on her best pair of pumps, march right on up to the man...and fall in love all over again.

The Muse Strikes Back: A Poetic Response by Women to Men Review

The Muse Strikes Back: A Poetic Response by Women to Men
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The politics surrounding this book tend to overshadow discussions of its literary merits. The argument usually has it that only women can write powerfully and insightfully from a woman's point of view--a position that ignores the power of Joyce's women characters and O'Connor's male characters, for example. The Muse Strikes Back is often reviewed as a testament to identity politics. But one of the poets in the anthology is a male using a pen name. (I'm not the poet.) When will we come back to the obvious, good sense of an ordinary notion: The power of writing lies in the writers' skill and vision--not in the writers' identity?

The Armchair Companion to Chicago Sports Review

The Armchair Companion to Chicago Sports
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Armchair Companion to Chicago Sports blends history, trivia, little known facts, and interesting quotes from the celebrities who have defined professional and amateur sports in the Windy City since the 1870s. The book is much more than a compilation of data revolving around the Bulls, White Sox, Bears, Blackhawks and Cubs. While the so-called "big four" sports are covered in assiduous detail, the Armchair Companion presents a historical survey of some of the lesser known sports, including bowling, bicycling, runner's marathons, the memorable golf tournaments, the short but unhappy history of professional soccer in Chicago, boxing, horse racing, and much more. The book was researched and written by Richard Lindberg, team historian of the Chicago White Sox and the author of eight other books dealing with aspects of Chicago history, politics and sports, and Biart Williams, his research assistant and sports historian, the fact-filled volume is a must for fans of all ages who live and die with Chicago

The Foot Guards regiments, 1880-1914: A pictorial album; Review

The Foot Guards regiments, 1880-1914: A pictorial album;
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A.H. Bowling worked with Almark publications on a number of military subjects, mostly in the 1970's. Every one of his books, from this, the Golden Age of popular works on British military uniforms is well worth having, but this one, covering the foot guards from 1880 to 1914, and therefor eliminating not only trench scenes but the junior guards regiment, the Welsh Guards, is the most tightly focused (four regiments over 34 years)of his works. If the guards regiments are not of any particular interest, then this work may not be for you, but if they are, this slim volume (64pp with numerous photos and color plates) should be an essential part of your military library. Many of the plates are not, to my knowledge, readily available elsewhere, and the text is concise, accurate and informative.

Bowling Green Stock Car Racing (Images of Sports) Review

Bowling Green Stock Car Racing (Images of Sports)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you have ever attended a dirt track stock car race, this book is for you. Although it is the story of the beginning of stock car racing at Beech Bend Park, one can almost hear the crash of metal on metal as these old 1930s stock cars bang doors going through the turns. The pictures are terrific, and I loved the introductory stories leading into each chapter. They are all true stories!

Bowling Green became the city of speed immediately after World War II as America began its love affair with the automobile. Stock car racing took the city by storm in its inaugural season of 1951, drawing crowds of up to 7,000 in a city of only 18,000. Soon thereafter, the city attracted the Chevrolet Corvette assembly plant followed by the National Corvette Museum. Images of Sports: Bowling Green Stock Car Racing documents the history of stock car racing in Bowling Green and the emergence of the raceway at Beech Bend Park.

History Of Bowling And Billiards Review

History Of Bowling And Billiards

I bought this for my very hard to shop for brother-in-law, delighted that I finally found something he would like. It was delivered on December 23 (too late to find anything else) and was basically a pamphlet. Not a book, not very much history included. For the $20+ I paid, I thought I'd at least get more than something the size of a children's book.

Angels Unaware Review

Angels Unaware
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Insightful. Interesting. Thought provoking. David Bowling has woven many kingdom principles into a hard to put down "fiction" story. Because of some of the scriptural conclusions made in the story it caused me to do some new bible studying of my own and learned a couple of things. After studying to the point of consulting my seminary Greek grammar texts I did not find any biblical errors in principles or detail in this story - something that I cannot say about much of the Christian fiction out there today. I recommend this book to any Christian leader to inspire fresh study and awareness of the supernatural struggles we all face. I find myself mentally looking over my shoulder while preaching to acknowledge in greater, more natural faith the presence of these fellow kingdom workers that I know, more than ever, are ever present at the Lord's direction to protect, correct and inspire. It also served to refresh my great love for God, my first love, in that He cares for each of us so. He cares for us with such individual attention that He gives his angels charge over us. I also recommend Angels Unaware to any Christian who would like to be inspired to seek afresh and wants to gain insight into the spirit world for the purpose of being less "suckered in" by the devil and his workers and therefore more successful in your life, marriage, family and the kingdom. Its a good read.

Mini Bowling Set Review

Mini Bowling Set
Average Reviews:

First of all, these pins do NOT look as pictured. The bowling ball is blue, not black. No holes to simulate a real bowling ball, which annoys my toddler. The pins paint is half chipped off every pin, and i had to sand down the pins because they don't stand up on their own without me doing so!! Little pieces of plastic on the bottoms. This is terrible quality, not worth 5 bucks, not even worth ONE DOLLAR. Although had i paid one dollar i wouldnt be as annoyed. (i paid 4 something)

Brunswick Circuit Pro Bowling Review

What? I'm the first one to write a review on this? This computer game is one of the greatest office-space games of all time. Don't know what an office space game is? Those are the games that occupy a spot on your work cubicle, and provide an excellent diversion from the humdrum of your work life.
On this level, the game is topnotch. However, what can't be ignored is the overall poor spin control. While the ball and pin reaction is superb, the spin control option is poor, and at the higher difficulty levels gives you almost no control over where your spin goes.
Still, there are few better games to fritter away your long office hours. Play away, and stay away from Milton.
