(More customer reviews)A.H. Bowling worked with Almark publications on a number of military subjects, mostly in the 1970's. Every one of his books, from this, the Golden Age of popular works on British military uniforms is well worth having, but this one, covering the foot guards from 1880 to 1914, and therefor eliminating not only trench scenes but the junior guards regiment, the Welsh Guards, is the most tightly focused (four regiments over 34 years)of his works. If the guards regiments are not of any particular interest, then this work may not be for you, but if they are, this slim volume (64pp with numerous photos and color plates) should be an essential part of your military library. Many of the plates are not, to my knowledge, readily available elsewhere, and the text is concise, accurate and informative.
