(More customer reviews)I have always been a huge fan of the Monkey Ball series. Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2 for the Gamecube are two of the best games ever, in my opinion. Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz for the Wii was a great game too, although not quite as great as the previous entries in the series. After Banana Blitz, I had high expectations for this game. I'm sure you can guess by my two stars that I was sorely disappointed. The balance board controls are a complete waste of time, and when you play the Wii Remote there are tons of bizarre little heads placed on the course to make it more difficult. The courses are completely unimaginative. They are more frustrating than enjoyable or challenging. And to add insult to injury they have only included about 70 levels, compared to the 100-150 that are typical for the series. And why does Sega continue to include dozens of ridiculously shallow and unplayable mini games with the Monkey Ball series? Do not buy this game. If you are looking for a challenging Monkey Ball game for the Wii, pick Banana Blitz instead. It is only about 20 bucks and a much better game than this one. Or even better, pick up Monkey Ball 1 or 2 for the Gamecube and play them on your Wii. This game doesn't come close to the greatness of the other Monkey Ball games (with the obviously exception of the terrible Super Monkey Ball Adventure). It is obvious that Sega is incapable of improving upon the series so (sadly) they should just quit before they make another travesty of a game like this one.

Super Monkey Ball Touch & Roll Review

(More customer reviews)This game has a main game like other Monkey Ball titles but this time you can control the monkey with your stylus instead of the d-pad. I think the stylus sucks completely on this game and I hate HAVING to use it. Yes you MUST use the stylus for all the mini games and for some main game levels (I am impartial to the use of the stylus on Metroid Prime Hunters as well so if you use it there you might like it here). Unfortunately more than 50% of the levels are ripped from Super Monkey Ball 1 or 2 so there aren't many new levels at all which kind of defeats the purpose. The main game is also easy (mostly because I have played 50% or so of the levels). The d-pad isn't as smooth as a joystick so I prefer the home console versions. The download play kind of sucks because only 3 of the party games can be played and none of the main game can be played in VS style (even for multi card play). Monkey Fight has a camera that is annoying so you can't see the entire stage. Stylus controls only work well for Air Hockey and Golf and would work well for Monkey War -IF I WERE RIGHT-HANDED. Unfortunately, there is no way for let-handed people to play monkey war unless they learn to control their right hand. This is the greatest flaw of this game. Don't buy this for the main game if you have played Super Monkey Ball because it is a waste. Buy this game for the mini games because they are almost completely changed. However, as great as the mini games are there are many missing features like on golf you used to be able to measure the distance to any point in the stage that you were aiming at. Now it just tells you how far the shortest distance is to the hole (which isn't always the best way to get there). This flaw and many other little flaws along with the Monkey Wars flaw makes me give this only 3 stars.

(More customer reviews)I just bought a GC less than a week ago and this was one of the first games I purchased. This game is flat out fun, no other word to describe it. I read some inaccuracies in the official review and in some other reviews on here. You don't tilt the floor in this game, you are actually in control of the monkey in the transparent ball and you move them around in the ball to get through the board. Sometimes the board tilts and gives the illusion that you are controlling the board as opposed to the monkey but that's not the case. You have a time limit to get to the goal without falling off of the board. There are four unique monkeys to choose from, and more than one person can use the same character, they'll just be a different color. Along the way, you can collect bananas and like Mario or Donkey Kong games, when you collect 100, you get a 1up.
Anyway, if you play one player mode, you must have patience. There are three difficulty levels: Beginner, Advanced, and Expert. Each has 10, 30, and 50 levels, respectively. Beginner is pretty easy, I finished all 10 levels without losing any monkeys. Getting to board 30 on Advanced is a trip and I still haven't been able to pass it, but half of the fun was getting there. Expert is really hard and of the 50 levels, I've probably seen 10. When you play in one player mode, you earn Play Points. Play Points allow you to unlock the Mini Games (Monkey Billiards, Monkey Bowling, and Monkey Golf). It kind of reminds me of Mario Party in that respect. So far, I've unlocked Bowling and Billiards, both of which are fun.
The cool thing about this game is that every mode can be played in multiplayer. (Just remember, you can only earn Play Points in one player mode.) Whether you want four people to play the regular floor-to-floor game, or Monkey Fight (knock your opponent off the platform with a boxing glove, a little like a minigame in Mario Party), or Monkey Race (a lot like Mario Kart with the items), or the Target game (a lot like P-Wings, I love this mode, a whole lot of fun). In addition, all of the minigames can be played by up to four people. Bowling is very straight forward, pick the angle, then the power, then the spin you want to put on the ball. Billiards is 9-ball. Haven't seen Golf yet.
Half of the fun is watching. My friends and I, a 24, 25, 26 and 29 year-old were playing this for a couple of hours, and we all go for different types of games. The monkeys are so entertaining that you find yourself laughing at them constantly. Trying not to fall off in the Normal Mode will ruin your nerves. It keeps you on the edge of your seat when you're watching someone manuever through a tough spot. It's one of those games that makes it fun to be a spectator.
Simply put, I love this game. There is enough variety that everyone should be able to find something they like about it. The fact that the four of us found any one game great was amazing. This is a must buy for Gamecube.

In Super Monkey Ball, you're in control of a cute little monkey trapped inside a transparent ball. The objective of the game is deceptively simple: tilt the floor with your analog stick so that your monkey ball rolls towards the goal. Your success is all in the thumb: the more you tilt, the faster the ball rolls. Just be sure not to fall off the edges! You can play with up to four others to see who can master the tilt and get their monkeys to the finish line ahead of the pack.
