This is a good book for beginning bowlers. It overviews everything and tells you how to pick up spares using the arrows. This book helped improve my score by about 100 pts.

Skills, Drills & Strategies for Bowling (The Teach, Coach, Play Series) Review

Skills, Drills and Strategies for Bowling (The Teach, Coach, Play Series)
Average Reviews:

This book is very very basic. I'm surprised at Jose the bowlers' review. He could only have been talking about conventional vs fingertip drilling as this book does not address the layout and drilling of a bowling ball at all. It is scorekeeping and the pin numbers and basic information about lanes and four steps. For a very raw beginner or teaching a class of beginners, it would work.

Focused for Bowling Review

Focused for Bowling
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've attended bowling camp, had lessons, watched videos, regularly read Bowling This Month, have read a dozen books on bowling and this by far is the best. If you're looking for advice on the physical fundamentals of the game this is NOT the book for you, read John Jowdy's Bowling Execution. However, if you have shown signs of having a relatively sound physical game then Focused for Bowling is for you. It emphasizes developing your mental game, which any seasoned bowler will tell you is the key to consistency and success.
Why do some excel in the spotlight and others crack under pressure? Your mental game is the answer. There are many exercises and suggestions in this book that will help you develop a stronger mental game. There is even a section on dealing with slumps.
Two years ago I was developing into a pretty good bowler. I loved the moment of needing a turkey in the tenth to win; and I often delivered. Then I went into a terrible slump. I tried everything, over thought the game, became negative about my ability, and lost my confidence as the anchor of my team. This year I started regaining my old form, but was still inconsistent and found myself thinking too much. The final straw: I missed a seven pin in the tenth that cost us a game. I picked up this book and have been lights-out since. I bowled a 299 and have average a consistent 205 for the past 8 weeks.
Once you understand the physical aspects of the game, you must read Focused for Bowling!!!

It doesn't matter if you are a beginner bowler or "an expert" anyone can learn something new from this book. Well written and to the point it truely gives concrete steps to help you be a better bowler. This is a book appropriate for all ages. My children and I all use the techniques Don talks about in the book. It has improved our games all around. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves bowling.

Par Bowling: The Challenge Review

Par Bowling: The Challenge
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The most complete bowling book I've ever seen. Covers every aspect of the physical game and just about anything else connected with bowling from philosophy to physics.
The book has a fair amount of useful diagrams, but it could use even more to explain some of the rather complicated ideas that Kouros deals with.
This is not light reading, but it is definitely worthwhile for the advanced bowler. Kouros writes well interspersing the technical information with jokes and anecdotes.
Kouros leaves it up to the reader to decide which of the many techniques he presents are worth incorporating. This is a responsibility that is best left to someone who knows their own game extremely well.
Unfortunately, If you're a beginner or intermediate bowler this book will probably confuse you more than it will help.
If you just want to bowl well without worrying about the why's and wherefore's, Fred Borden's books are probably more appropriate.
However if you are in the 180's or so (Average not IQ, but the extra IQ points certainly wouldn't hurt) this book should definitely be part of your library.

Bowling: Steps to Success (Steps to Success Activity Series) Review

Bowling: Steps to Success (Steps to Success Activity Series)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Robert Strickland's book is a great book for the individual wanting to understand the mechanics and technique needed for building a solid bowling swing. There are step-by-step drills provided, along with success tests for each drill. Having bowled with a poor technique for years, this book helped me to see how much I was doing incorrectly, and why my scoring was so inconsistent. I have applied many of the principles Strickland outlines to my own bowling technique, such as using a four-step delivery, as well as the timing of each arm motion with the feet in the swing, and have found greater success and consistency in hitting my mark on the lane. While variances will inevitably occur with each bowler (for example, I need to start with my knees bent more deeply, as I tend to lift my shoulders and drop the ball at the line, whereas Strickland recommends a more upright "snooty" posture at the outset of the swing), it is a good book to "review the basics" and check your own technique against.

Book is interesting and has few typos. A lot of nice anecdotes, personal information about the players, practice techniques etc.
However, complicated releases employed by pro's are described in words without pictures. Frankly it is difficult to picture exactly what these guys are doing with their releases etc. Definitely needs more pictures, diagrams, etc.

Bowling Fundamentals (Sports Fundamentals) Review

Bowling Fundamentals (Sports Fundamentals)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I ordered three books on bowling and this one by Michelle Mullen is the best of the three. After reading this book I went out and shot games of 199 and 200+, it's the truth. If you want to improve your game or are looking for some good advice then definitely buy this book. I don't recommend buying "From Gutter balls to Strikes" because the author doesn't know how to write a book. He claims to provide you with 101 of the most common mistakes but for the most part it's not good advice. Stick with "Bowling Fundamentals" and you will be fine.

Learning to bowl has never been easier—or more fun—than with Bowling Fundamentals. Students will enjoy using this resource because they will learn by doing, spending less time reading and more time on the lanes. With simple instructions and accompanying photographs, this book makes it easy to teach students to bowl.

Bowling Fundamentals begins by teaching students about the proper grip and stance. These chapters are followed by instructions on footwork, arm swing, timing, and release. Chapters also are devoted to hitting the pocket and mastering left and right side spares. Finally, readers will get specific information on league bowling.

Each chapter addresses a specific skill, leading the student through a simple, four-step sequence:

-You Can Do It: The skill is introduced with sequential instructions and accompanying photographs.

-More to Choose and Use: Variations and extensions of the primary skill are covered.

-Take It to the Lane: Readers learn how to apply the skill in competition.

-Give It a Go: Several direct experiences—such as drills, small-sided games, and self-tests—are provided to gauge, develop, and hone the skill.Writer Michelle Mullen won four national titles including one major as well as nine regional titles in the Professional Women\'s Bowling Association and has coached bowlers of all skill levels for more than 16 years. Her personal and professional experiences allow her to understand clearly what bowlers need and how to help them achieve success.

Part of the Sports Fundamentals Series, Bowling Fundamentals teaches the basic skills and tactics to help readers get rolling in the game and enjoying every frame.
