We bought this game on an impulse at the end of an afternoon browsing at a shopping mall. We got it home and tried it out. Wow! It was a close as you can get to bowling without being in a bowling alley. We played for hours that night. The ball is a lightweight sensor ball with different finger hole spacings on it for on it for kids and adults. After moving our coffee table to make some space in front of the tv, we plugged in the port unit, sold separately, to the wall and the tv, put in the game unit, put it on the floor and bowled. You start by stepping towards the tv screen, aiming and throwing just like in the alley but you don't let go of the ball. (I did this improperly when I forgot not to let go without the wrist guard properly tightened. I threw the ball into a chair the first time but it held up fine and we kept on bowling). On screen it bowls down the alley just the way you sent it and it is a blast! The sensors record everything about your throw and translate on screen. There is a musical background and the sound of the pins and rolling balls is realistic. The onscreen simulated bowling alley is also well done and realistic. The score is kept at the top of the screen for you. You can reset for the next turn by aiming the ball and moving it towards the screen, this is great as it is less of a play interruption than going to the port unit and pushing the enter button each time. You can modify your bowling style if you choose using onscreen settings and add hooks, rotations etc., in how you set the sensors but I chose to just roll straight. The game also has training modes, timed bowling modes that are a bit of a workout, you can bowl a pin game where pins move across the lanes like ducks in a shooting gallery, or knock out panels as fast as you can, you can bowl tournament play for up to eight players, or just play alone or with up to four players. It is just a blast. Once or twice the ball did not seem to respond but the trouble shooting section of the manual was easy to read and the problem was probably that we threw either too hard or too soft, if you do that the sensors might not pick up your throw. The manuals are short and easy to follow. We can't wait to have friends over for pizza and bowling. We liked it so much we ordered the tennis and baseball packages too. It is terrific playing interactive games that let you realistically simulate the sport instead of leaving you sitting in chair moving only your fingers and wrists and this game is just so much fun! Baseball was great too, We haven't tried the tennis yet.
